I was born in France, right outside of Paris. My mother is Vietnamese-American and my father is French. I see myself living in Los Angeles or Southern California in my immediate future and I plan on getting there by focusing on growing my business. I'm like my parents in my appreciation of fine art and cultural activities such as museums and concerts. I am unlike my parents because my view of the world is much more focused on self-advancement and fulfillment rather than selfless work, focused on helping the world and humanity. I have developed a series of expectations for myself that push me to be better at the kind of work that I do and be efficient. I focus on comparing myself to my peers in the kind of work that I do rather than my peers with similar ages or resources as myself. A model of mine, ever since I read his biography by Andrew Roberts, has been Napoleon Bonaparte. He had a vision for himself, France, and Europe, and executed on this vision with passion, precision, and ambition. An animal I feel a connection with is the shark, partially because my name is Ocean, but more so because they have to keep swimming to stay alive. I feel similarly in my life, as I think that I have to keep working or my company, life, and hopes will fail. A significant childhood encounter I had with a plant was the tree I found to make my bow when I was 12. I went into the woods to find a tree that was young enough, yet flexible enough, but also firm enough to make a bow. After cutting it I had to work the wood for 1 week, sanding, varnishing, treating, and modifying to make my bow, which I used frequently for a year before it breaking.

Hi Ocean,
ReplyDeleteI think it is very interesting that you feel a connection to sharks with your name being Ocean. How you explained it connects with you makes sense and is very ironic !

Just like you, I love fine arts! I think this is because we were born in two countries that have such an important cultural and artistic background.
ReplyDeleteI am also planning on moving to Los Angeles immediately after graduation! However, because I am from Florida, it would be a slightly less drastic move.
